Jane Ingold

Librarian and Archivist at Penn State Behrend. Jane has worked at Behrend for more than twenty years.

About her job: As a librarian, I help with reference and instruction. Additionally, I take care of the Behrend Archives, where we keep historical items related to the college, including old yearbooks, photos, and memorabilia including any historical items about the Hammermill company, which the Behrend family owned.

Family: I am a single, childless woman who for years had two different-sized child seats in my car to accommodate the various children in my life. I love being their fairy godmother.

What she enjoys about her work: I like helping people find the information that they need. It’s a little bit like playing detective.

Pet peeves: A slow internet connection.

Biggest challenge at work: Finding enough time to do all the things that I want to do.

No floppy fish: I think it’s important for women to have a solid handshake.

What she wishes every woman understood: There is nothing that applies to every single woman.

Recommended reading: The Art of Possibility by Ben and Rosamund Zander.

Best life advice she’s ever received: Comparison is the thief of joy.

What you’d be surprised to know about her: It’s harder for me to pick up the phone and make an appointment than it is to speak in front of a large group of people.

Wishful thinking: One of my favorite things to do is go thrifting where I often buy craft supplies that I will never use and books I will never read.
