Advice for Majors in Accounting (ACNTG)

Program Chair: James Voss

Penn State Erie's accounting program allows a certain amount of flexibility with regard to required courses in the major and some flexibility with regard to when they are scheduled.  For example, students can take ACNTG 320/ACCTG 310, Introduction to Federal Income Tax, during the fall semester of either their junior or senior year.  Students can choose among a number of accounting electives, including internship credits, to fulfill the additional course requirement.

It is critical, however, that accounting students entering their junior year take ACNTG 310/ACCTG 371, Intermediate Accounting I, during the fall semester.  This is the first of a two-course sequence that also includes ACNTG 311/ACCTG 472, Intermediate Accounting II, that is always only offered once during each academic year, during the spring semester.

All incoming accounting students are encouraged to meet with their assigned adviser during the fall semester to discuss their individual interests and begin planning a program of study designed to meet these interests.  It is also important for students to explore the various career opportunities open to accounting majors, both with the adviser and with other accounting faculty members.

Mr. James Voss, program chair of Accounting, welcomes students who are not his advisees to visit him during his office hours to discuss the accounting program as well as career and job-search concerns. You may contact him by e-mail at jav7@psu.edu or by phone at 814-836-9968.
