SAM AND IRENE BLACK SCHOOL OF BUSINESS Management Information Systems Major (MISBD) TESTIMONIALS What our senior students say about the MISBD major: Go
for it! It's a great major. It takes a lot of work, but it's all worth it. Hey,
I'm graduating, I have a job -- all the long hours were well spent ... That's
one of the great things about Behrend --you can actually sit down and talk with
your faculty.
My internship is going
well, I just signed a one-year contract with the Postal Service this past week.
Until graduation I will be making $15 an hour, have all paid holidays, a weeks
paid vacation, and a very nice laptop and docking station for my own personal
use. After I graduate, I will receive a substantial raise. So things here are
working out quite well. It's
a great program, I'm very happy I stayed, and it's a very marketable program.
One of the great things is the required internship... The professors here, the
faculty, are wonderful. The position that I got, I have to say, had a lot to do
with the courses that I've taken. They were just shocked at some of the courses
that are offered here. I mean this company was in awe. What our students say about the MISBD major after they graduate: I
just landed, a pretty nice job as a Programmer Analyst for Independence Blue Cross
developing underwriting programs in PB, and I just wanted to tell you that they
were very impressed by the PowerBuilder class I had, and with PSU-Behrend for
offering it. Thanks Again. My
supervisors are so impressed with the program, that they are considering recruiting
people from the MIS program at Behrend. Any idea who to speak to?
I
know that the internship has paid off many times over... I have the perfect job
and career ... I actually love going to work... I will more than likely be in
charge of hiring two more MIS people ... The first and last place I'm going to
look is Penn State Behrend. I would like to thank the MIS staff and all the computer
staff at Penn State ... I would never think of majoring in another area. I cannot thank you guys enough for the great education, as it is really paying off here. -- Ryan Rowe, MISBD, 1995 What managers say about our MISBD interns I
cannot speak highly enough of Brian. I originally gave Brian an internship as
a service to PSU and him. However, Brian soon proved more valuable than
some employees with several years of work experience. We would be extremely
grateful for more interns like Brian. Thanks. I wanted to write and tell
you how completely satisfied we were with the internship of Anna. Her knowledge,
ability, and professionalism far exceeded any expectations we might have had.
Your school can take pride in producing students like Anna. Brad successfully
completed writing 2 databases in Microsoft Access. We are extremely pleased
with his performance! Penn State Behrend should be proud that they are producing
quality students that will be able to compete in the job market. I am
very impressed with the quality of students in your internship program.
For our organization, Rachael was an excellent choice. Ken Far exceeded my expectations ...
I would hope to provide another student the same opportunity next summer. Aggressively
pursued project with completely new technology. Learned, then applied.
Overwhelmed at first, then jumped in with both feet and completed a pilot, then
a nearly finished project. Would gladly invite Ted back again. Mark is a credit
to himself and your institution. He quickly made himself a valuable part
of our staff. Exceptional
young man; contributed to the organization far beyond expectations. Eric
was the best intern that I have had in recent years--a self-starter with much
enthusiasm. Julie
did an exceptional job for us--proven by the fact that we have asked her to stay
on our staff part-time this fall. Jeff
has certainly more than met the work expectations of his mentor and peers.
By way of illustration, let me pass on a comment from one of his peers:
"We'll just have to get us another Jeff after he is gone." Steve
has exceeded every expectation I had for an intern. He has been a vital
part in the day-to-day operations at the MIS department and has contributed more
than expected to the implementation of our new computer system. |
