School of Engineering Research Guidelines

Before You Begin:

All sponsored research and senior design projects are to be discussed with your Program Chair and coordinated with School's Associate Director for Research and Technology Transfer and Research Staff Coordinator (Patty Lanich) using the School of Engineering Sponsored Research Approval Form. Early coordination ensures the contemplated research meets personal and program goals, and the timely completion of required signature approvals, research agreement submittals, and budgets as they may apply.  Depending upon the type of project, approvals from the University’s Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) may be required, adding time to the overall project schedule. The guidelines below provide instruction on the required processes for each type of project.

Project Types:

Guidelines for preparing sponsored projects of short duration, having  no transfer of intellectual property, and with direct costs below $20,000

Guidelines for preparing sponsored projects of longer duration, having no transfer of intellectual property, and with direct costs exceeding $20,000

Guidelines for preparing sponsored research projects involving the transfer of intellectual property

Guidelines for preparing research submittals to grant agencies
