SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING Design: After establishing a strong
foundation in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), the student applies these
skills while being introduced to the product development process,
where guidelines are established for designing plastic components
with consideration of plastic processes, related tooling, and material
selection. Product specifications are expanded to include cost impact
of design decisions, industrial design input, and other organizational
perspectives such as project management. Computer-Aided Engineering
(CAE) is introduced in the junior year for process simulation, allowing
students to visualize the impact of their design decisions on the
manufacturing of the component and product performance. The design
piece of the puzzle provides the knowledge and skills required to
fulfill a number of career roles that focus on the product development
process. |
