SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING

Jim Hagg

My name is James Hagg and I come from the small rural town of Smethport, PA where I graduated in 1997. I was at Behrend my entire college career and graduated from the METBD program in 2001. I am currently employed by ExxonMobil as a Drilling Supervisor where I supervise drilling operations on off-shore drilling vessels. In my current assignment, I work off of the west coast of Africa on a drilling ship.

I chose to attend Behrend because I liked the sounds of the MET program's hands-on approach to learning mechanical engineering. The MET program gave me a great technical background to gain an understanding of the concepts of the oilfield and then use this understanding to make quick intelligent decisions. The thing I liked most was the small class size and professors that took pride in teaching their students and making sure they understood and learned the materials they presented.

I recommend living on-campus as I think this makes the transition to college easier, giving you a great opportunity to get involved with on-campus activities and meet new people. The people I lived with on my dorm floor my freshman year became my closest friends throughout my college years, and I am still in contact with a number of them regularly today. I recommend studying hard, but remembering to take the time to enjoy the college social life.
