SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING
Chris Swenglish
Hello, my name is Chris Swenglish and I am from Connellsvilee, PA. I graduated from Geibel High Scho ol in 1995 and started my Penn State education at the McKeesport campus. I later went through the change-of-assignment to Penn State Behrend and graduated from the METBD program in 1999. I currently work for Medrad, Inc. where I am a senior mechanical engineer. I spend my day designing and developing medical devices that are used in the medical industry, specifically Magnetic Resonance. The picture of me at work shows products that I work on in an MRI environment. These devices are important to the medical industry and display vital signs during testing and produce images of the brain, cervical spine, and soft tissue neck.
Behrend gave me the tools that are used out in the real world, set me up for success, and allowed me to differentiate myself from other graduates. Beyond the basics of engineering I was most impressed that Behrend gave me other class opportunities that allowed me to be prepared for what the real world needed from an engineer. The program is tuned for the engineer of today, not the engineer of years past. Finally, the most important thing Behrend offered was assistance in getting a job. I feel that I was provided the resources necessary to set me up for success.
College classes are a responsibility, no one is going to make you go to class or be a responsible person. You will sink or swim based on how responsible you are.
