Director of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Director serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the School and reports to the College’s Chancellor’s Office. The School has 68 full-time faculty members and offers six Bachelor of Arts degree programs (Communication, English, General Arts and Sciences, History, Political Science, and Psychology), a Bachelor of Science degree program (Psychology), and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program (Creative Writing). The School also offers courses in anthropology, art, art history, foreign languages, music, philosophy, religious studies, sociology, and theater. Candidates should have a teaching and research record with credentials commensurate for appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure in one of the School’s academic disciplines. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of administrative experience, including a record of progressively increasing responsibilities; enjoy working with students, administrators, and faculty members from a broad range of disciplines; will have experience in innovative program development; will have strong skills in written, oral, and interpersonal communication; will be committed to shared governance; will be strongly supportive of diversity; and will have experience in fund-raising and outreach efforts. Students and faculty enjoy the extraordinary beauty of the College’s 725-acre campus in the suburbs of Erie, Pennsylvania’s fourth-largest city. The College is comprised of four academic schools (Humanities and Social Sciences; Science; Black School of Business; and Engineering) employing 240 full-time and 57 part-time faculty members. Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, is seeking a full-time, non-tenure-track lecturer in psychology for a one-year appointment, beginning fall 2010. The teaching load is four courses a semester (two or three preparations). Courses may include introductory psychology, personality psychology, developmental, learning, abnormal, forensics, and sports psychology, as well as courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Faculty are encouraged to participate in scholarly activity involving undergraduate students. Qualifications: Master’s degree required (Ph.D. preferred), plus college or university teaching experience. Assistant Professor of Digital Journalism/New Media The Communication program at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in Digital Journalism/New Media, beginning August 2010. Responsibilities include teaching courses in both traditional print journalism and digital journalism (including new and convergent media) and advising the weekly student newspaper. The position requires excellence in teaching and scholarship, as well as involvement in college and departmental service. A Ph.D. in Mass Communications or related discipline is required; ABD candidates with evidence of significant progress will be considered. College teaching experience is required. Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, is seeking a full-time, non-tenure-track lecturer in German for a one-year sabbatical replacement appointment, beginning fall 2010. Master’s degree required (Ph.D. or A.B.D. in German or German Studies preferred). The average teaching load is 12 hours per semester (4 courses the first semester; 3 the following semester). Courses will include introductory and intermediate language courses in German, as well as general education courses covering German culture and civilization.
