To be a scientist in the twenty-first century means to be an explorer. Chemists create new compounds. Physicists observe atoms and research the fundamental constituents of matter. Biologists map human genes and explore the environment. Mathematicians and computer scientists lead a revolution in problem-solving that affects all disciplines of scholarship.
At Penn State Behrend's School of Science, students benefit from the resources and opportunities provided by a major research institution while enjoying the advantages of learning in a smaller setting. Excellent faculty in seven baccalaureate programs prepare students for successful careers in business and industry or to pursue further studies in graduate and professional programs at major universities. Renovated laboratories and new equipment, aided by National Science Foundation grants, provide fine facilities for undergraduate research, and the new Mehalso Observatory offers state-of-the-art astronomical viewing. Pennsylvania Sea Grant, based at Penn State Behrend, develops special research opportunities on Lake Erie and elsewhere.
