The MBA degree is a 48 credit program, less exemptions, and requires:

    18 credits of Foundation Core,
    18 credits of Advanced Required, and
    12 credits of Elective courses

 

Individuals who have completed recent business course work in relevant courses and have earned a B or better grade, will be exempt from the 18 credit Foundation Core.

Foundation Core Courses - 18 credits

An introduction to basic business concepts to prepare students, without recent undergraduate degrees in business, for advanced courses.

B ADM 500 Business Government & Society (3 credits) - overview and analysis of ethical, legal, political, technological, and societal impacts on business.

B ADM 501 Costs, Competition, and Market Performance (6 credits) - a project-oriented investigation into the critical principles of accounting, economics, and finance.

B ADM 502 Demand, Operations, and Firm Performance (6 credits) - a project-oriented investigation into the critical principles of management, marketing, and operations.

B ADM 503 Integrated Business Analysis (3 credits) - overview of the statistical analyses of a variety of business problems. Prerequisites: B ADM 501 and B ADM 502.

Advanced Required Courses - 18 credits

Each course is 3 credits and must be taken at Penn State Behrend

B ADM 510 Cost Management for Decision Making and Control - the study and use of accounting information for cost management, product costing, planning and controlling operations, and managerial decision making. Prerequisite: B ADM 501.

B ADM 511 Information Systems Management and Strategy - fundamental uses of IS/IT as a strategic organizational asset.

B ADM 512 Managing a Diverse Workforce - analysis of human resources and diversity priorities in organizations. Prerequisite: B ADM 502.

B ADM 513 Global Operations & Supply Chain Management - effective management of the flow of goods, services, and information through the supply chain. Prerequisites: B ADM 501, B ADM 502, B ADM 503.

B ADM 514 Strategic Planning and Business Policy - formulation of objectives and implementation of programs to promote long-range success of the organization in a changing environment. Prerequisites: B ADM 510, B ADM 513, B ADM 532.

B ADM 532 Corporate Finance -Application of modern corporate finance theory to corporate practice.  Prerequisites: B ADM 501 and B ADM 503
 

Elective Courses - 12 credits

Each course is 3 credits.  Elective offerings are re-evaluated yearly based on surveys of students' professional interests and faculty availability.

International elective - 1 elective must have an international focus
Additional electives - 9 credits, selected from the University list
  • As the result of a recent survey of MBA students, electives will be offered in Leadership, Finance, Project Management & Marketing.

  • Students may also arrange Independent Study courses (596) in consultation with an appropriate faculty member.
