Athletics and Academics Annually Behrend Lions student-athletes excel in the classroom. In the spring, more than 100 were honored with academic all-conference honors. To be recognized as all-conference student-athletes must earn at least a 3.2 grade point average each semester--a challenging task while balancing practice, games, and academics. A complete list of the AMCC All-Academic Team can be found at: AMCC 2007-08 Academic All-Conference Team In addition, 24 athletes' at Behrend have been recognized by the National College Athletic Honor Society (NCAS). The society is designed to acknowledge varsity athletes who are also high academic achievers. Juniors and seniors on varsity squads with a 3.40 cumulative GPA or better are eligible, and once inducted become members of the Chi Alpha Sigma Pennsylvania Epsilon Chapter. At Penn State Erie, academics always comes before athletics. The entire coaching staff monitors the academic progress of their student-athletes with support from the faculty. In addition, coaches hold study-table sessions for those in need of assistance. Student-athletes also are encouraged to visit the Learning Resource Center, where tutorial services are available to all Penn State Erie students. If academics and athletics are important to you, find out more about the admissions process by viewing our Admissions home page.
