Penn State Behrend Claims Three AMCC POW -- October 19, 2009
The Behrend Lions claimed three AMCC Player of the Week honors. The league office announces selections each Monday throughout the season. Leslie Durante (Fairview/Fairview) was named the AMCC women's tennis player of the week. Durante helped lead the Behrend Lions to the team title at the AMCC championship tournament by winning both her singles and doubles events. She teamed up with Hillary Lasher (Lakewood/Southwestern) to win the # 2 doubles title, then upset # 1 seed Liz Coblentz from Frostburg St. en route to a three-set win at # 5 singles. Kevin Gorny (Erie/McDowell) has also been named runner of the week for the blue and white. Gorny led all AMCC competitors who raced at the Inter Regional Rumble at Oberlin College, posting a time of 26:38 for the 8K course. He finished 77th in a field of 243, which included five NCAA Division III nationally ranked teams.
Senior Dustin Walker (Apollo/Kiski) has been named AMCC
goalkeeper of the week for the Behrend Lions. Walker posted
two shutout wins and went 3-0 overall in the AMCC victories over
Hilbert, La Roche and Franciscan. He went on to only allow one
goal and collected 11 saves in the process. Walker has also
been named ECAC goalkeeper of the week. |
