Women's Cross Country Wins AMCC Title The Penn State Behrend women's cross country team took home its second Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship on Saturday, October 30. The blue and white were led by senior and individual champion Jessica Knapp (Erie/McDowell), who covered the 6K course at the Western Maryland 4-H Center in a time of 25:01. Behrend's first title came in 2001, when Knapp again led the field, pacing Behrend to take five of the top six places. This season Behrend captured four of the top six spots to help secure the win. Sophomore Leslie Gentile (Corry/Corry) came in second, senior Claire Manelick (Youngsville/Youngsville) came in fifth, and sophomore Willa Paterson (Woodward/Penns Valley) came in sixth. "The women totally dominated the race from start to finish. It was good to bring the AMCC title back to Behrend," said head coach Dave Cooper. The team will now switch its focus to NCAA Regionals, which will be held at nearby Allegheny College. Last season the team took a school best sixth out of thirty-six schools. As of the final MidEast Region Coaches Poll the team is ranked thirteenth in the region, but it hopes to outperform expectations on November 13. Back to Cross Country News Index |
