Cross Country Teams Bring Home All-AMCC Honors

With great showings at the AMCC Championship Meet, the men's and women's cross country teams each brought home five all-conference awards.  Both the men and women had four runners finish in the top ten at the meet and collect all conference recognition.  Senior Jessica Knapp (Erie/McDowell) captured additional honors by being named the Runner of the Year for the third time, while freshman Eric DiLuzio (Erie/Cathedral Prep) earned the title of Newcomer of the Year.

Knapp led the women's field of 53 runners, finishing the 6k course in a time of 25:01.  Following her were fellow all-conference performers Leslie Gentile (Corry/Corry), Claire Manelick (Youngsville/Youngsville), and Willa Paterson (Woodward/Penns Valley).  Gentile came in second, while Manelick and Paterson were fifth and sixth, respectively.

On the men's side sophomore Brad Ruffo (West Middlesex/West Middlesex) crossed the line first for the blue and white and second overall with a time of 29:01.  DiLuzio grabbed fourth place, Craig Davis (Erie/Harborcreek) came in sixth, and Tim Schultheis (Latrobe/Latrobe) finished in tenth place.

The Behrend Lions now look to prepare for the NCAA Regional Meet.  Last year both teams had strong performances in the race, which will be held this year at Allegheny College on November 13.
