Behrend Cross Country Competes at NCAA Mideast Regionals

The NCAA Mideast Regionals were held at Allegheny College on Saturday, November 13.  Both the men's and women's cross country teams made the trip.

The women finished thirteenth out of thirty-five teams.  Senior Jessica Knapp (Erie/McDowell) was the first to finish for Behrend, covering the 6k course in a time of 22:33.  Knapp's performance was good enough to place her seventh in the field of 259 runners and qualify her for the All-Mideast Region Team.  Also making the All-Mideast Region Team was sophomore Leslie Gentile (Corry/Corry).  Gentile finished in twenty-ninth with a time of 23:42.

The men finished in a team-best fourteenth place.  Sophomore Brad Ruffo (West Middlesex/West Middlesex) paced the blue and white through the field of 34 teams and 249 runners, finishing the 8k course in forty-eighth place with a time of 27:22.  Finishing second for Behrend was freshman Eric DiLuzio (Erie/Cathedral Prep).  DiLuzio crossed the line in a time of 27:46, and was named to the All-Mideast Freshman Team.

The meet concluded the season for the Behrend cross country program.  Head coach Dave Cooper, along with many of the cross country runners, will now make the transition into track and field.  The first indoor meet will be held January 21, at Slippery Rock.
