Behrend Teams Finish Second at AMCC Cross Country Championships

The Penn State Behrend men's and women's cross country teams both placed second at the 2005 AMCC Championships. The Frostburg Bobcats captured the men's title again, while Penn State Altoona earned the women's title.

For Behrend Brad Ruffo (pictured on the right) won the individual title in the 8k race posting a time of 26:55 a year after placing second overall. Freshman sensation Jen Bailey (Corry/Corry) finished second in the 6k event, only four seconds behind the leader in 24:20.

Also earning all conference honors were freshman Jason Bem (Union City/Union City) who placed seventh in 28:35, and Leisl Soergel (Evans City/Butler) in eighth place in 26:44. The men have finished second to Frostburg State for five consecutive seasons, while the women were trying to defend last season's AMCC crown.

The cross country program is in its tenth year at Penn State Behrend, and fifth under the direction of coach Cooper.  Since their inaugural season in 1996 both the men's and women's teams have enjoyed a great deal of success.

Both groups have won an AMCC title, the men have finished in the top twenty at the NCAA regional meet in seven of nine years, and the women are coming off of a thirteenth place finish in 2004.

This year's NCAA regional will be held at Dickinson on November 12.
