Cross Country Kicks Off Season at Westminster Invitational
The Behrend men were highlighted by senior captain Brad Ruffo (West Middlesex/West Middlesex) who finished second overall with a time of 27:21. Ruffo was beat by Brendan Mckee of Walsh University who finished at 27:20, a mere one second better. Also having a strong race was newcomer Andy Iams (Harrison City/Penn Trafford). Iams came in at twenty-first, with a time of 29:15. Andy Marshall (Brunswick, OH/Brunswick) and Rob Shrawder (West Middlesex/West Middlesex) finished twenty-third and twenty-fourth respectively. The women were led by Jenny Bailey (Corry/Corry) who finished with a fourth-place time of 20:01. Amelia Uppgaard of Franciscan took the race with a finish of 19:36. Leisl Soergel (Evans City/Butler) was Behrend's second finisher at twenty-third, with a time 21:18. Also crossing the finish line for the women, Willa Patterson (Woodward/Penns Valley) at twenty-seventh, and Lisa Brozewicz (Wattsburg/Seneca) with a time of 22:48. "Both the men and women showed a lot of promise given the weather conditions and the fact that it was the first race of the season," said coach Cooper. "They should continually improve throughout the season and be competitive for the AMCC Championships."
