Men and Women Both Place Second at AMCC Championships

The Penn State Behrend men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Lake Erie College on Saturday, October 28 where they each came in as runners-up in the AMCC Championships on a course through Eleanor B. Garfield Park.  The men were paced by senior captain Brad Ruffo (West Middlesex/West Middlesex) who came in second out of 65 with a time of 28:38.  Starring for the women was Jenny Bailey (Corry/Corry) who won the women's race.  As a team, the men were runner-up to Frostburg State out of a field of 10 with a team score of 46.  The women's team finished with 39 points, good enough for second behind Frostburg's 34.

"I was very pleased with the way our men and women performed, said coach Cooper.  They knew that Frostburg was the favored team going into it and they gave all they had in trying to upend the Bobcats."

Also finishing near the top for the men was Kevin Gorny (Erie/McDowell), who took seventh, Andy Iams (Harrison City/Penn Trafford) who crossed in at tenth with a time of 29:37, and Andy Marshall (Brunswick, OH/Brunswick) who was right behind in eleventh place.  For the women, Willa Patterson (Woodward/Penns Valley) was sixth with Leisl Soergel (Evans City/Butler) on her heels at seventh, and Lisa Brozewicz (Wattsburg/Seneca) coming in at eleventh.

The championships marked the end of the cross country regular season.  The NCAA Mideast Regionals will be held at Waynesburg on November 11.  The NCAA Championships are on November 18 at Ohio Wesleyan.
