Behrend's Cross
Country Teams Gear up for AMCC Championships
Penn
State Behrend's men and women's cross country teams are getting ready for
the AMCC Championships, which will be hosted by Hilbert College on Saturday,
October 27.
Coach Greg Cooper is expecting top performances from both the men's and
women's teams. "I think our depth will be key to both races," said
Cooper.
The men are looking to be in the top standings of the AMCC Championships
this weekend. They have been led this season by 2006 Newcomer of the year
Kevin Gorny (Erie/McDowell), but a number of other runners have been making
solid contributions as well. These include Tyler Lion
(Washington/Trinity), Steve Monnie (Butler/Butler), and Bob Cizek
(Pittsburgh/Shaler) who have had consistent success in their rookie year for
the Behrend Lions. Other runners such as Andy Iams (Harrison City/Penn
Trafford), Andy Marshall (Brunswick, OH/Brunswick), and Rob Shrawder
(NewWilmington/West Middlesex) should have strong showings at the
championships as well. "Many of the men should be able to make the
All-Conference teams," said Cooper.
The women's cross country team are looking to go one step further from 2006
and take home the AMCC champoinship. For the women, it is no surprise
that 2006 Runner of the Year Jenny Bailey (Corry/Corry) has led the blue and
white throughout the 2007 season. Coach Cooper has great faith in top
finishes by these women. "I think Bailey has a good chance of
repeating as conference champion," said Cooper. Bailey is joined again
by fellow senior runner Lisa Brozewicz (Wattsburg/Seneca) and a very
talented group of freshmen who are ready to step up to the challenges they
face in the upcoming weekend.
The championship will be held at Hilbert College in New York. The
women's race kicks off at 11:00 a.m., while the men's race will begin at
12:00 p.m.
