Behrend Runners Earn AMCC All-Conference Honors

The Behrend Lions completed another great year in 2008.  Both the men's and women's teams saw success throughout the year.  The runners are now being recognized for their accomplishments.  The AMCC All-Conference teams were filled with Behrend Lions.

The leaders of the women's team found themselves on the All-Conference team. Emily Berry (Reno, PA/Rocky Grove) and Mallory Souleret (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) were placed on the team for the second time as newcomer Jenna Fatica (Erie, PA/Villa Maria) was also added as an all-conference selection.  Fatica and Berry battled for the top spot for the blue and white all year.  Berry finished fifth at the conference championships while Fatica was eighth.  Fatica was strong for much of the year finishing as the top runner in five of the seven competitions.

The Behrend Lions placed five runners on the all-conference team as they earned the 2008 AMCC Cross Country Championship.  Juniors Kevin Gorny (Erie, PA/McDowell) and Andy Iams (Harrison City, PA/Penn-Trafford) were named for the third time in their careers.  Fellow junior Rob Shrawder (New Wilmington, PA/West MIddlesex) was also named to the all-conference team.  Rounding out the all-conference team were freshman Carl Kallgren (Erie, PA/McDowell) and sophomore Bob Cizek (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler).  The Behrend Lions were led throughout the year by Iams.  Iams was the top runner for the blue and white in six of the seven races.

Also earning the Coach of the Year on the men's side was Behrend own Greg Cooper.  Coach Cooper earned back to back AMCC Championships as well as Coach of the Year honors.
