Men's Cross Country Team Opens 2009 With Win at Westminster

The Behrend Lions men's cross country team opened the 2009 season in impressive fashion by claiming the team trophy at the Fisher Invitational hosted by Westminster College.

Penn State Behrend placed first out of fourteen teams thanks to the pace set by senior standout Kevin Gorny (Erie, PA/McDowell) who turned in a 26:25 and placed first overall. Andy Iams (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford) was eighth in 27:55 with Justin DiPenti (Russell, PA/Warren) and Alex Myers (Oakmont, PA/Riverview) finishing in thirteenth and fourteenth in 28:16 and 28:17. Rob Shrawder (New Wilmington, PA/West Middlesex) placed eighteenth, while Carl Kallgren IV (Erie, PA/McDowell) was twenty-second and Steve Monnie (Renefew, PA/Butler) was twenty-fifth.

On the women's side, Behrend finished in fourth place ahead of ten other squads. Junior Emily Berry (Reno, PA/Rocky Grove) competed to a seventh place finish with a time of 24:28, while Liz Keller (Bradford, PA/Bradford) finished thirteenth in 25:04.
