Behrend Men Cruise on Opening Night With Win Over Bridgewater

The Behrend men's basketball team started the year off with a win, rolling past Bridgewater College 56-46 in the opening game of the Behrend Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday, November 17 in front of 212 fans in the Junker Center.

Behrend came out firing in the first half, shooting 57% from the floor in the first 20 minutes.  Kevin Buczynski (Erie/Villa Maria) picked up where he left off last season, scoring six of the first eight points for Behrend.  The blue and white held Bridgewater to 8-of-23 shooting from the floor in the first half, building a 27-20 lead at the break.

Bridgewater would not go down without a fight, clawing back to within a single point twice during the second half, the second time at 39-38 with just over eight minutes to play.  Behrend (1-0) would respond, going on a 14-3 run over the next six minutes to clinch the win. 

Buczynski led all scorers with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting, and grabbed five boards.  Adam Potter (Pittsburgh/Mt. Lebanon) was also in double figures, connecting for 13 points to go along with a team-leading six rebounds. 
Tom Newman (Girard/Northwestern) also added eight points in the win, including two from long-range. 

Bridgewater was led by Michael Oblitey, who finished with 18 points, including four three-point buckets.  Dominic Trawick was also in double figures, scoring on three from long-range and finishing with 13 points for the Eagles.

Sunday's consolation game will tip-off at 1:00 p.m. and will see Bridgewater (0-1) face Fredonia State (0-1).  Baldwin-Wallace (1-0) defeated Fredonia 94-76 in the first game of the day, and will battle the blue and white in the championship game set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
