Behrend Lions Extend Winning Streak to Six with Pitt-Bradford Victory

The Behrend men's basketball team won their sixth straight game with a convincing 68-47 conference win over Pitt-Bradford in the Junker Center on Monday night. The 21 point victory keeps Behrend's home mark an unblemished 8-0 this season.

With the win Behrend improves to 12-3 and 6-2 in the rugged AMCC, while Bradford falls to 9-7 and 5-4 in league play.

At the games start, Behrend sprinted to a 15-1 advantage after a pair of Kevin Buczynski (Erie/Villa Maria) lay-ups with only seven minutes elapsed on the clock.

As the half winded down, Adam Kaiser (Erie/Cathedral Prep) hit a three ball from the left corner off a pass from Justin Kovac (Venetia/Peters Township) with five seconds remaining to send the blue white to the break with a 41-17 lead and put an exclamation point on the first twenty minutes of play. Behrend shot 63% from the floor and created 11 turnovers.

The second half both teams shot below 40% from the field, but Behrend's lead was too much for the Panthers. On the night, Behrend hit 51% of its shots including six from three-point territory. Tom Newman (Girard/Northwestern) was six-of-eight from the field for a team-high 16 points. Seniors Dan Zeigler (Johnsonburg/Johnsonburg) and Buczynski added 11 apiece. Bradford was led by Andy Buyea's 16 points and five boards.

The Behrend Lions hit the road for a trip to Lake Erie on Wednesday, January 24.  Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m.
