Behrend Lions Sizzle Mt. Aloysius 98-54 in the Junker
Center The blue and white came out firing connecting on nine first half three-pointers with Adam Kaiser (Erie/Cathedral Prep) and Tom Newman (Girard/Northwestern) hitting three apiece as Behrend led big at the break, 49-22. Behrend who entered the contest ranked second in NCAA Division III for scoring defense, helped its cause by limiting the Mounties to 32% shooting from the field and forcing 11 turnovers over the first twenty minutes. With 4:57 remaining in the first half, Kevin Buczynski (Erie/Villa Maria) connected on a fast-break lay-up off a Justin Kovac (Venetia/Peters Township) pass to move in front of Behrend legend Rick Demski for the second spot on the all-time scoring list. Demski, who played for the Behrend Lions from 1987 to 1991, scored 1,466 career points. Buczynski finished the game with a game-high 24 points and now has 1,480 in his career. In the second frame Behrend tossed in another 49 points and hit six more from downtown to cruise to the 44 point win. Behrend improved to 14-4 and 8-3 in the AMCC, while the Mounties fall to 3-12
and 1-10 in the league. |
