Buczynski Named AMCC Player of the Year, Kovac All-Conference
Behrend men's basketball Kevin Buczynski
(Erie/Villa Maria) was named the 2007-08
AMCC Player of the Year. Fellow teammate Justin Kovac
(Venetia/Peters Township) was also honored by being selected for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC)
All-Conference team for a second year in a row.
Buczynski has had an outstanding senior year
for the Behrend Lions. He leads the team in scoring, contributing 425
total points and averaging 15.7 ppg. Kevin averaged 20.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg,
and 4.5 blocks per game during the AMCC tournament, helping his team to the
conference championship. Kevin ranks second in all-time scoring at Behrend with 1,648 career points, only 78 points
behind the all-time leading scorer James Curren. He also leads the AMCC in field goal percentages, hitting
59.5%. He was named the AMCC Player of the Week twice this season.
Sophomore point-guard Kovac was also named to the AMCC All-Conference team. Last year Justin was awarded the Newcomer of the Year award and continued to prove his place in the AMCC during the 2007-08 season. He is third for the Behrend Lions in scoring, racking up 221 points, good enough a for 8.2 ppg average this season. Kovac is ranked first in the AMCC for assist/turnover ratio with a 2.75 assists per turnover. Justin has come up big for the blue and white from the free-throw line as well, hitting 51-63 this season. After capturing the 2007-08 AMCC Championship, the men received an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. First round tournament play will begin for the blue and white on Friday, March 7 at the University of Rochester in New York. The men have been matched up against Farmingdale State, with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m. The winner will advance to the second round of play on Saturday, March 8 and take on the winner of the Rochester/Middlebury game. Tip-off for Saturday's game is set for 7:00 p.m.
