Penn
State Behrend's Men's Basketball Rolls Over Mt. Aloysius 79-64
Penn State Behrend improved to 3-2 on the season and opened
AMCC play with a victory over visiting Mt. Aloysius 79-64 on Wednesday,
November 3, in front of 583 fans at the Junker Center.
Behrend found themselves behind 9-4
with fifteen minutes to go in the first half when senior Tom Newman
(Girard/Northwestern) blocked a Mt. Aloysius shot that led to a layup to
pull the Behrend Lions within three. The next trip down the court Newman
scored off a steal by Adam Kaiser (Erie/Cathedral Prep) and was fouled.
Newman would knock down the free throw to knot the game at nine apiece.
Much of the first half was close
until the blue and white began to pull away with eight minutes left. The
Behrend Lions would take a 39-30 lead going into halftime.
In the second half Behrend pushed its lead to 52-37 with just under 16
minutes to play on back-to-back three point buckets by Kaiser and Pat St.
Andrews (State College/State College). Mt. Aloysius would not go
quietly and cut it to a six-point Behrend lead with ten minutes to play.
The blue and white then responded with a 14-5 run to open the game back up
and made free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
Adam Potter (Pittsburgh/Mt. Lebanon) had a big game making 8-of-15
from the floor to hit for 21 points and six boards, while Newman added 16
points and five assists. Kaiser used four three-point buckets to hit
for 14 points to go with his four assists.
The next opponent for the Behrend
Lions will be Frostburg State (2-2). The blue and white will play on the
road in Maryland this Saturday, December 6, at 3:00 p.m. A year ago the
two teams split the season series with each squad claiming a victory on its home
floor.
