Stays on Pace in AMCC After Win Over Hilbert
After an overtime win in the first meeting the Behrend Lions
took care of business in regulation coming away with a 81-59 win over the
Hilbert Hawks on Wednesday, February 4 in front of 494 fans at the Junker
Center.
In the first half the Hawks built an early 11-6 advantage behind some hot
shooting and later led 21-15. Behrend would respond with a 17-2 run
behind some long-range sharpshooting to build a lead of its own. The
blue and white would go on to knock down ten 3-point buckets (10-of-18) in
the first half and entered the break with a 40-30 lead.
Adam Kaiser (Erie/Cathedral Prep) connected on five shots from
long-range and hit a free throw to lead the Behrend Lions with 16 first-half
points. Tom Newman (Girard/Northwestern) hit three from
long-distance for nine first half points.
The Behrend Lions would extend their lead to 12 on a Drew
Seker (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) lay-up. The Hawks would get
it to within nine off a three-pointer by Dan Terrette with 8:56 left to
play. The blue and white would then go on a 20-7 run to end the game.
The Behrend Lions (14-6, 10-3) would end the night with three in double
figures. Both Kaiser and Newman finished with 21 apiece. Kaiser
was 6-for-11 from behind the arc while Newman was 5-for-8. Drew Seker
would add 14 points and six boards for the blue and white.
The Behrend Lions will take on Penn
State Altoona in a huge AMCC match-up on Saturday February 7 in the Junker
Center. Tip-Off is set to begin at 3 p.m. The blue and white
will then play three of its final four games on the road against AMCC
opponents. They will be back on the Junker Center hardwood to close
out the season on February 21 against Pitt-Bradford at 8 p.m.
