Behrend Lions Set To Host Wesley in ECAC Tournament

The Penn State Behrend men's basketball team (19-7) has been selected to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament and will host Wesley College (16-9) on Wednesday, March 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the Junker Center.

Behrend earned the #3 seed and will face #6 seed Wesley in a first round game in the ECAC Southern Region. 

The Behrend Lions have been led this season by sophomore Kevin Buczynski (Erie/Villa Maria)
 who is averaging 18.7 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game.  Sophomore David Gahan (Erie/East)  has been solid in the post averaging 11.9 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game while senior Justin Jennings (Cranberry/Seneca Valley) has started every game and provided leadership in the backcourt with a team-high 95 assists.

The first-round winners will advance to the semifinals on Friday, March 3rd at Keystone College. The host team and #1 seed Keystone College (22-5) will face the winner of the #4 DeSales (16-9) vs. #5 Albright (16-9) game while in the other semifinal, #2 Pitt-Greensburg (16-9) will play the winner of the Penn State Behrend-Wesley game.  The semifinal winners will meet on Saturday, March 4th at Keystone for the ECAC Division III Men’s Southern Basketball Championship.

Behrend and Wesley met in the first game of the season on November 19 at the Junker Center when the Behrend Lions pulled out a 77-75 victory in the first day of the Behrend Tip-Off Tournament.  The Behrend men have posted a stellar 11-2 mark on their home floor this season.

Under head coach Dave Niland, the Behrend men have played in five previous ECAC Tournaments and his 1998-1999 team captured the ECAC Southern Region Championship.  Overall his teams have qualified for either the ECAC or NCAA Tournament in nine of the last ten seasons.
