Behrend Basketball Runs into a Powerful Ohio Wesleyan Squad

Penn State Behrend men's basketball faced a talented Ohio Wesleyan squad in the championship game of the annual Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday, November 18.  Behrend's trademark shutdown defense surrendered 84 points Battling Bishops and were dropped by a final count of 84-64.  Ohio Wesleyan combined for a two game total of 177 points en route to winning the tournament.  In the tournament's consolation game, the Elmira Soaring Eagles disposed of D'Youville with ease, 73-37.

Behrend finished as tournament runners-up and were led by Kevin Buczynski (Erie/Villa Maria) and Dan Zeigler (Johnsonburg/Johnsonburg), who both made the All-Tournament Team.  Buczynski finished with nine points in the championship game after a 28 point effort in game one.  Zeigler added nine points of his own along with four rebounds and four assists.  Other All-Tournament performers were KC Mendez of Elmira and Matt Shirer, Dustin Rudegeair, and Ben Chojnacki all of Ohio Wesleyan.

The blue and white got off to a slow start against Ohio Wesleyan and went into the half down 49-22 after the Battling Bishops outshot Behrend 59% to 39% from the floor.  Behrend would go on to close some of the gap in the second half, shooting 15 of 25 from the floor after the break.  Ohio Wesleyan won the battle underneath, cleaning up on the glass 34 to 18.

Then Behrend continues its season at Allegheny on Tuesday, November 21, with a non-conference game at 7:30 p.m. in Meadville.
