Behrend Men Down a Hot Altoona Squad 77-61

Penn State Behrend men's basketball handed the Altoona men just their second loss in eight games Saturday night, February 3, improving to 15-5, 13-1 in the AMCC on a 77-61 victory.

The men came out firing and jumped out to a 7-0 lead.  Altoona would close it to within three early on, but Behrend jumped back out to a 36-23 lead by halftime.  Tom Newman (Girard/Northwestern) led the men at the break with eight points.  Behrend shot 52% hitting 13 of their 25 shots, including 5-10 from beyond the arc.

The men clung to a double-digit lead through most of the second half, before pulling away at the end with free throws to extend the lead to 16.  Point guard Justin Kovac (Venetia/Peters Township) finished with 10 points, five boards, and four assists.  Kevin Buczynski (Erie/Villa Maria) led Behrend with 16 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.  Behrend shot a solid 53% from three-point land on the night.  Tyler Franklin for Penn State Altoona led all scorers with 22 points.

Next up for the men will be Medaille on the road on February 7.  Behrend beat the Mavericks earlier in the season 65-54.  The game is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
