Jake Hordych Establishes New Milestone for Behrend Lions

Jake Hordych (North East/North East) earned his fifth career shutout this weekend to eclipse the former men's soccer record of 14 set by Thomas Sieg (1997-00). Hordych, a senior and two-year captain of the Behrend Lions has been recognized several times during his collegiate career for his outstanding play. In 2000, he received the Leadership/Sportsmanship award and has also been named to the AMCC All-Conference second-team for two consecutive years.

"Jake has enjoyed an outstanding senior season and has led a defense that is allowing less than one goal per game," said head coach Dan Perritano. "His leadership and steady goaltending has put us in position to finish our season in great form." The Behrend Lions are 9-3-2 overall and second in the league with a 3-0 mark.

Hordych began his 2003 season on the heels of Sieg, but he made Behrend history this weekend with a 1-0 shutout and win against Swarthmore. During his Behrend career, Hordych has played in sixty games and posted over three-hundred saves. With four regular-season games left and postseason approaching, Hordych will only add to these impressive numbers.

Next up for the blue and white will be a road contest at Lake Erie (0-3, 4-10) on Wednesday, October 22 at 4:00 p.m. With another win the Behrend Lions will tie Frostburg with a 4-0 league mark and set-up a pair of big games against Penn State Altoona on the road and a possible AMCC Tournament hosting decision game versus Frostburg on Saturday, November 1.
