2003 AMCC Men's Soccer Tournament Game Moved
to MCNE
The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team will be
hosting the Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Tournament
this Wednesday, November 5 at 2:00 p.m. The Behrend Lions won the bid
to host after defeating Frostburg State on Saturday and clinching the
number-one spot in the AMCC.
On Wednesday, the Behrend Lions (12-4-2, 5-1) will be the top seed
hosting the number-four seed La Roche (8-8-3, 3-3) at 2:00 p.m. at
Mercyhurst North East due to field conditions. The number-two seed
Frostburg State (9-5-2, 5-1) faces the number-three seeded
Pitt-Greensburg (14-4-1, 4-2) in Frostburg. The championship game is
scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 8 and will be played at the
site of the highest remaining seed.
Leading the Behrend Lions offensive attack will be senior captain Andy
Laver (Erie/McDowell) in the midfield. Laver has posted a team high
eight goals and six assists entering into the tournament this
Wednesday. The defense for the blue and white will be senior captain
Jake Hordych (North East/North East) in goal. Hordych entered
Behrend's record books this year for the men's soccer program with
eight shut-outs thus far in his 2003 season and eighteen in his
overall career. He was named goalkeeper of the week by the AMCC and
has been named to the AMCC second-team for two consecutive years.
Under head coach Dan Perritano the program is an impressive
113-87-14. The Behrend Lions are coming off six consecutive AMCC
tournament appearances and are focused on clinching the AMCC title in
2003. If the blue and white win on Wednesday they will host to the
championship game on Saturday and look to bring another title back to
the men's soccer program.
