Behrend to Face Frostburg State in Men's AMCC Championship

The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team will be hosting the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship match this Saturday, November 8 at 12:00 p.m.  The Behrend Lions won the bid to host after defeating La Roche on Wednesday.

On Saturday, the Behrend Lions (13-4-2, 5-1) will be hosting the Frostburg State Bobcats (10-5-2, 5-1) at 12:00 p.m. at Edinboro University due to field conditions.  Behrend defeated the La Roche Redhawks (8-10-3, 3-3) by a score of 4-1 on Wednesday to advance to the championship match.  Defending champion Pitt-Greensburg (14-5-1, 4-2) and Frostburg State played Thursday, with Frostburg State defeating Pitt-Greensburg by a score of 2-0.

Leading the Behrend Lions offensive attack will be senior captain Andy Laver (Erie/McDowell) in the midfield.  Laver has posted a team high nine goals and six assists entering into the conference final this Saturday.  The defense for the blue and white will be led by senior captain Jake Hordych (North East/North East) in goal. In the regular season Hordych had more shut-outs (eight) than any other goalie in the AMCC, and the Behrend defense as a whole had the best goals against average in the conference, allowing only 0.82 goals per game.

Under head coach Dan Perritano the program is an impressive 115-87-14.  The Behrend Lions are coming off six consecutive AMCC tournament appearances and are focused on clinching the AMCC title in 2003.
