Behrend Lions Soccer Among Most Improved in Division III

The Behrend Lions men's and women's soccer programs were ranked as one of the Most Improved teams of 2003, according to NCAA Divsion III statistics. In 2002, the men's record was 8-4-10 with a 45% winning percentage.  During 2003, their record was improved to 14-5-2 and a 71% success rate, 5 1/2 more wins than the previous season.  After clinching the AMCC regular-season and championship title, the Behrend Lions were invited to play in the NCAA tournament and senior Andy Laver earned AMCC Player of the Year honors.

The 2003 season saw the women's team improve by 6.5 games.  Their record in 2002 was 8-12, with a 40% winning percentage.  This season they posted a 14-2-5 record and posted a 71% winning percentage. The women's team competed in the AMCC championship but were defeated by Frostburg State,
2-4.

With their performance this season, the women's team hopes to get back to their winning track.  The blue and white won four AMCC championship titles between 1997 and 2001, and also appeared in the ECAC and NCAA playoffs over four straight season's.

The men regained their title after taking second place for the last three consecutive seasons. They previous won the championship was in 2000.  This was the teams first NCAA postseason appearance.
