Herb Lauffer Memorial Soccer Tournament Kicks Off 2004 Season

The Penn State Behrend men's soccer season opens the year with the annual Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament on Saturday, September 4 and Sunday, September 5 on the Behrend Fields.

"This tournament is a very special event for our soccer program," said head coach Dan Perritano. "It always provides a high-level of competition to start our season."

The Behrend Lions, who are the preseason pick to win the AMCC again, will play Hiram on Saturday at 10:00 a.m., while Alfred and Baldwin-Wallace battle at 12:00 p.m. The classic format feature on Sunday has Behrend scheduled to play Baldwin-Wallace at 12:00 p.m. and the early game has Alfred playing Hiram at 10:00 a.m.

Last year the Behrend Lions opened up with a tough 2-1 loss to Medaille before bouncing back with a 3-0 win over Hiram in game two of the Tournament.

The men's team is striving to match the outstanding success they achieved last year with another AMCC title and another appearance in the NCAA Tournament.  The blue and white improved in each outing of 2003 and closed the season winning nine of their last twelve games, before bowing out of the NCAA Tournament to the defending National Champions.

"We are a team with a well established identity. We need to focus on the things that worked in a year ago and continue to pound away at our strengths," continued Perritano.
