Behrend Lions Earn Invitation to 2005 ECAC Tournament

Penn State Behrend's regular season ended with a heartbreaking 2-1 last second loss to Frostburg State in the first-round of the AMCC playoffs for the second season in a row. Today the Behrend Lions breath a bit easier after learning they were named to the field of eight for the 2005 ECAC Southern Region Tournament.

"This is good acknowledgement for a full season of work," said head coach Dan Perritano. "The committee rewarded our program for our entire season."

Behrend (12-6) enters at the eight-seed and will travel to top-seeded McDaniel (13-4-2) on Wednesday, November 9 for a 1:00 p.m. contest. McDaniel lost 1-0 in the Centennial Conference semi-finals. Behrend and McDaniel do have some history as the Behrend Lions advanced to their first-ever ECAC appearance in 2000. Behrend hosted McDaniel (formerly Western Maryland College) and beat them 4-1 on the Behrend Fields. Penn State Behrend has won a pair of AMCC Conference Tournament titles and worked for an NCAA Tournament bid in 2003.

The rest of the ECAC field has John Hopkins as the number-two seed and Swarthmore as the number-three seed. Grove City is seeded fourth while Lake Erie, Dickinson, and Penn State Altoona fill out the fifth through seven spots.

The 2005 AMCC soccer season has produced several top-quality squads. The Medaille Mavericks won the automatic-qualifier for the NCAA Tournament, while Behrend, Lake Erie, and Penn State Altoona all advanced to the ECAC Southern Region Tournament.
