Behrend Upended 1-2 by Thomas More, Westminster Cruises 3-1

The Behrend men suffered a tough 1-2 loss Saturday, September 16, when Alex Weidner of Thomas More found the net for a game winning goal in the closing minutes of the second half.  The game marked the start of the Behrend Lions home schedule and was the first of four games in the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament.

Thomas More struck first early, on the foot of John Wallace to put the Saints up 1-0.  Adam Cline (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) for Behrend tied up the game in the end of the first half off a Dave Baleno (Pittsburgh/Plum) corner kick.  The score would remain locked at 1-1 until just nine minutes remained in regulation.

With the loss, Behrend falls to  0-4 on the season and will be back on the field again at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday to square off against the Westminster Titans.  Thomas More improves to 1-3 and will play La Roche at 11:00 a.m. Sunday. 

In the tournament's second game of the day, Westminster came back from an early 0-1 deficit to score three straight and secure a 3-1 victory over La Roche.  Titan scoring came from Blake Ordell, Andrew Saporito, and Brice Lott.

Behrend (0-1) in this year's tournament, are the defending tournament champions after last season when they beat Washington and Jefferson 3-1 and then Juniata 2-1 in the championship game.
