Behrend Falls 3-0 to Fredonia Blue Devils to End Non-Conference Play

The men’s soccer team was dropped by Fredonia 3-0 up on the Behrend Fields on Friday, September 22.  The loss puts Behrend at 1-5-1 on the season and improves the Blue Devils record to 5-3-1.

Despite a first half dominated by Fredonia, Behrend goalkeeper Thomas Reihner (Washington/Linsly School) kept the game scoreless, tallying eight saves going into the break.  Fredonia outshot the blue and white 11-1 and had four of the five corners in the game.  The highlight of the half came when Trevor Ianni sent a flying header on goal that was swatted away by Reihner.

Behrend came out in the second half more aggressive, as Ahmad Salim (Cranberry/Seneca Valley) played give and go with David Baleno (Pittsburgh/Plum) and took a shot that was blocked by charging Fredonia goalie, Scott Bergen.

Fredonia would strike first in the sixtieth minute when Matt Mahaffey found net, and then again six minutes later on a Jordan Berg indirect kick that was punched in by Rob Esposito.

The game marked the end of non-conference play, as Behrend will open up AMCC soccer against Mt. Aloysius on Saturday, September 23 at 3:00 p.m.
