Behrend Men's Soccer Runs Into Elite Medaille Team

The men’s soccer team hosted last season’s AMCC Champions, the Medaille Mavericks on Tuesday, September 26.  Medaille improved to 8-1, and 2-0 in the conference as they downed the Behrend Lions, 9-0.  Behrend drops to 2-6-1 overall and evens their mark in the AMCC at 1-1.

The scoring started early, as Gary Boughton booted one in just nine minutes into the game.  The second goal came off an indirect kick by Ryan Mangano that Jacob Reisdorf redirected with a flying header.  Cory Cwiklinski got his second assist of the game when he found Mangano on the run to put the Mavericks up 3-0.  The half ended with Medialle leading in shots 15-5, and corners 4-2.

Maverick scoring continued in the second half, first by Kendall McFayden, then by Cwiklinski.  Mangano rang up assists on both goals, giving him a total of four assists and one goal on the game.  Josh Meier, Kris Kewin, and a header by Mike Rhodes all added to the Maverick lead.  Jeremy Watson banged one home off the cross bar to finalize the score at 9-0.

Shot totals ended at 26 for Medaille and 13 for Behrend.  Corners were led by Behrend eight to six.

Look for men’s soccer in action again on Saturday, September 28 as they travel to Thiel.  The matchup with the Tomcats is set for 4:00 p.m.
