Behrend Lions Walker and Romanelli Selected for Super-20 Team

Penn State Behrend soccer players Dustin Walker (Apollo/Kiski Area) and Joe Romanelli (North Versailles/East Allegheny) were selected to join the Penns Forest Super-20 Team.

Both Walker and Romanelli will be sophomores for the blue and white in the fall of 2007 and are expected to build off Walker worked between the pipes in 10 games posting a 2.47 GAA, while Romanelli played in 18 games as a rookie scoring a goal and notching a pair of assists.

The USL Super-20 League is the only U20 men's amateur league in North America. Created in 2006, the league provides the opportunity for the top 17-20 years olds to compete in high-level competition.

The league was designed to cater to the top of the youth ranks in the US and Canada for players aspiring to play professionally and to serve as a reserve division for USL's Premier Development League, who have increasingly taken youth development of this age range under their auspices the past few years on a smaller scale. PDL teams will now be able to add USL Super-20 teams to expand their development goals as well as their player pool for the senior team.

The Behrend Lions open the season with the Herb Lauffer Memorial Soccer Tournament on September 1 and 2. Behrend battles D'Youville in the 2007 opener while St. Vincent and Baldwin-Wallace will play in the other match. The winners meet on September 2 at 12:00 noon in the championship game with the consolation game slated for 10:00 a.m. in the morning.
