Behrend Falls in Herb Lauffer Memorial Finals 4-2 to Baldwin-Wallace
The Behrend Lions lost 4-2 to Baldwin-Wallace in the championship match of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Soccer Tournament on Saturday, September 2, on the Behrend Fields. Behrend jumped out to an early one goal lead that was neutralized just as quickly by the Baldwin-Wallace offense that managed to take a swift 2-1 advantage. Behrend junior Ahmad Salim (Cranberry/Seneca Valley) then scored on a left side header off a pass from freshman Josh Teti (McKeesport/Elizabeth Forward) to knot the game at two apiece. With 26 minutes left in the second 45, B-W had a goal waved off because of an offsides call, before Tyler Leister hit the game winner with only 14:02 remaining. Mike McCue assisted Matt Pietro in a tack on goal to make the final 4-2, in favor of Baldwin-Wallace. Baldwin-Wallace's Bryce Slyvester and Mike Grater were named co-MVP's of the Herb Lauffer Tournament. Next up for the blue and white will be a pair of road games at the Fredonia State Tournament. On Friday, September 7, Behrend battle the host Blue Devils and in the classic tournament format, Behrend is scheduled to play Mt. Union on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Behrend will be looking to avenge last year's 1-0 hard fought loss on Fredonia's field.
