Behrend Men Battle Grove City Through Double Overtime 1-1

The Penn State Behrend Lions faced off against the Grove City Wolverines Wednesday, September 19th at the Behrend fields.  The 110 min match ended with hard fought battle and a 1-1 tie.

The Behrend Lions started the first half dominating the Wolverines.  Only three minutes into the first half sophmore forward Jerry Tortella (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) found the net from a long deep pass from defender Adam Cline (Jefferson Hills/Thomas Jefferson) to go ahead 1-0.

The two teams continued to battle it out throughout the rest of the first half and well into the second.  Play became very physical into the second half, with three Grove City players receiving yellow-card cautions.  The score remained 1-0 Behrend until the 84th minute, when forward Jake Kern (Fairfield/Fairfield) scored the even up goal and sent the game to overtime.

The overtime minutes did not seem to tire the blue and white as they battled hard against the Wolverines.  The last five minutes was full of Behrend offense, but was stopped by a fighting Grove City defense.  Dustin Walker (Apollo/Kiski) had eight saves on the day.  Behrend out-shot the Wolverines 23 to 16.

Next up for the blue and white they will face the Thiel Collge Tomcats on Friday, September 21st at 4:00 p.m. on the Behrend fields.  Last year the Behrend Lions defeated the Tomcats 3-0.
