Men's Soccer Defeats Thiel College With Grace 5-1

The Penn State Behrend Lions faced off against the Thiel Tomcats  Friday, September 21st at the Behrend fields. 

The Behrend Lions came out attacking hard from the start.  Only three minutes into the first half forward Jerry Tortella (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) headed the ball over the keeper and into the net to make the score 1-0.  The men pressured Thiel all over the field, allowing them only two shots in the first half.  In the last minutes of the half, Behrend was awarded a free kick 15 yards outside the box.  Senior Captain David Baleno (Pittsburgh/Plum) served a ball across the box and defender Adam Cline (Pittsburgh Thomas Jefferson) shot it with ease, making the score at the half 2-0. 


The second half was more of blue and white domination.  The Behrend Lions were able to tally three more goals, only allowing one from Thiel.  Goal scorers for the men included Eric Murillo (Pittsburgh/Montour), Jamie Thomas (Erie/McDowell), and Tortella who marked his second goal of the game and his eighth of the season.   The Behrend Lions (4-2-2) out shot Thiel 36 to 5.  Goal keeper Matthew Zirnsak (Butler/Butler) had two saves on the day. 

Tomorrow the men they travel to Mt. Aloysius to face the Mounties at 3:00 p.m.  This marks the first AMCC game for the blue and white in the 2007 season.
