Behrend Men Lose Heartbreaker in Overtime
1-0
The
Penn State Behrend Lions faced off against the La Roche Red Hawks Saturday, September
29th at the Behrend fields. The men were looking to tally
another win towards conference play.
The first half remained a back and forth battle between the two
teams. The blue and white had a number of chances, including a
set piece opportunity that almost put the men up 1-0. Towards
the end of the half the Behrend Lions were dominating La Roche,
out-shooting them 11-8 in the first half alone.
The second half brought much of the same for the men. Ahmad
Salim (Cranberry/Seneca Valley) dove to head an in-swinging ball
from the corner that nearly made it into the back of the goal.
Then late in the half, La Roche got a break inside the box. A
wild shot came towards the goal, but keeper Dustin Walker (Apollo/Kiski)
was quick to make the save. The game was scoreless at the end
of regulation.
As overtime began, each team got great scoring opportunities.
Unfortunately, it would be only one that counted. In the
seventh minute of overtime, Ousman Jaiteh (Gambai, Africa/Gamia)
from La Roche ending the scoreless battle. The Behrend Lions
out-shot the Red Hawks 29-13. Walker had six saves on the day.
The blue and white will next host the Lake Erie Storm (7-3-1)
on Wednesday, October 3, at the Behrend fields. This will be the
fourth AMCC conference match for the men this season.
