Men's Soccer Shuts Out Lake Erie 2-0 in Thrilling Match

The Penn State Behrend Lions faced off against the Lake Erie Storm on Wednesday, October 3 at the Behrend fields.  The men were looking to tally another win towards conference play.

The men came out to play and were on fire from the start.  The blue and white controlled most of the first half with exceptional passes and great defensive playing.  In the 33rd minute, Behrend was awarded a free kick at the top of the box.  Senior captain David Baleno (Pittsburgh/Plum) stepped up and knocked one right passed the goalie.  The half ended with Behrend ahead by one.

The second half was much of the same for the men.  Lake Erie had a few chances at the goal, but failed.  After much long and hard play, the men struck net again in the 71st minute.  Jerry Tortella (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) took a great pass from senior Jamie Thomas (Erie/McDowell) and shot what seemed like a rocket pass the goalie.

The Behrend Lions (6-4-2) out-shot the Storm 22-15.  Goalkeepr Dustin Walker (Apollo/Kiski Area) earned the shut out and had nine saves on the day.

The blue and white will next travel to Pitt-Greensburg on October 6, to play the Bobcats at 4:00 p.m.  Later next week the men will host Pitt-Bradford in their sixth AMCC game this season.
