Men's Soccer Players Make NCAA National Rankings

The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team has had a very rewarding season so far.  The men are currently ranked third in the conference with a 6-2 record and an overall record of 10-4-2.

Their success can be attributed to an outstanding team effort, with a number of star performers.  Leading the Behrend Lions in goals and points thus far is sophomore forward Jerry Tortella (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson).  He has tallied 15 goals and two assists, totaling 32 points on the season, just one away from the school record.  Tortella has been ranked by the NCAA 57th in points per game with a 1.87 points per game average. He has also been ranked 38th in the goals per game category with an average .87 goals per game.  Fellow forward Ahmad Salim (Cranberry/Seneca Valley) is the Behrend Lions second point leader with ten goals and 23 points on the year.

Another consistent performer for the blue and white has been sophomore midfielder Eric Murillo (Pittsburgh/Montour).  He has contributed a total of 15 points for the Behrend Lions and has been ranked by the NCAA as 62nd in assists per game with seven.

Goalkeeper Dustin Walker (Apollo/Kiski) has had an outstanding year for the men's team.  Walker has made 39 saves on the year, recording a 0.929 goals against average.  He is currently ranked third in NCAA save percentage category and is ranked ninth in goals against average with an average of .36.  Walker has posted four shutouts thus far in the 2007 season.

The blue and white have only two more regular season games remaining in the 2007 season.  They will travel to Penn State Altoona Saturday, October 20 and play their last AMCC conference game of the season at 3:00 p.m.  The AMCC conference tournament begins on Saturday, October 27.
