Men's Soccer Register 1-0 Victory of Altoona in AMCC Semi-Finals

The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team is slated to play in the 2007 AMCC Championship match after registering a 1-0 win over Penn State Altoona on Wednesday afternoon on the Behrend Fields.

Saturday's championship game will be played at Medaille at 2:00 p.m. in Buffalo, New York. Medaille earned a 3-0 victory over Frostburg and entered the tournament as the number-one seed and therefore earned the right to host the finals.

The first half of the game was played primarily in the midfield with Altoona, the number-three seed, outshooting Behrend 10-6. Behrend's Dustin Walker (Apollo/Kiski Area) made eight saves in goal and Altoona's Brandon McQuillen made two stops.

The first thirteen minutes of the second half featured more of the same before Ahmad Salim (Cranberry/Seneca Valley) connected on the game's only goal in the fifty-eighth minute sending Behrend into the finals.

The Behrend men, seeded second in the tournament, finished the regular season with a 7-2 mark in conference play and are now 12-4-3 overall. Altoona closes out AMCC play with a 15-5 mark. Behrend will be making its first appearance in the AMCC title game since claiming the 2003 conference title and advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

Last season Behrend's season concluded with a 5-0 loss to Medaille who went on to win the conference title. Behrend will face Medaille again for the second time this season. The Mavericks enter Saturday's game with an eight-game winning streak and a 16-1-2 record. In the regular-season, Medaille defeated Behrend 1-0 on September 25 in Buffalo.

The AMCC Men's Soccer Champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.  Pairings will be announced late Sunday night.
