Behrend Men's Soccer Receives Honors for All-Conference Teams

On Monday, November 5, the AMCC announced the men's Soccer All-Conference teams.  The Behrend Lions made quite an impression on the league, having six players receive honors.

Selected for the first all-conference team was sophomore forward Jerry Tortella (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) and sophomore goalkeeper Dustin Walker (Apollo/Kiski Area).  Tortella is the Behrend Lions leading goal and points scorer, netting 16 goals and contributing two assists on the year totaling 34 points.  Back in October, Jerry scored his 16th goal and tied the school record for most goals in a season set back in 1973.

Walker has been nothing short of impressive between the pipes for the blue and white.  He has made 63 saves this season, recording five shut-outs for the year.  Walker has only allowed five goals in this season, making for an outstanding 0.37 goals against average.  Walker has been ranked among the top ten goal keepers in the NCAA in the goals against average category.

The Behrend Lions had four players named to the second-team.  Among those was sophomore forward Ahmad Salim (Cranberry/Seneca Valley).  Salim is second behind Tortella in season points.  Salim has added 11 goals and three assists towards the Behrend Lions season totaling 25 points.  Senior captain David Baleno (Pittsburgh/Plum) received his second all-conference honors.  Baleno has played excellent defense in the midfield but has also helped in the offense efforts, scoring three goals and adding four assists for the blue and white.

Fellow midfielder Mike Seth (Pittsburgh/Baldwin) also received honors, his third of his college career.  Seth earned honors the last two years with his former team Pitt-Bradford.  Rounding out the honors for the Behrend Lions is junior defender Adam Cline (Jefferson Hills/Thomas Jefferson).  Cline has been a tenacious defender for the blue and white this season, stopping some of the top offensive players in the league.  In the AMCC Championships, Cline scored the game tying goal with only 19 seconds left and then went on to score the golden goal in overtime to win the title and advance to the NCAA tournament.

The Behrend Lions will next play in the first round of the Division III NCAA tournament.  The men will travel to Washington & Jefferson and take on the Presidents on Wednesday, November 7.  Kick-off is set of 6:00 p.m.
