Montclair State Edges Behrend 2-1 in 2007 NCAA Tournament

On Saturday night in Montclair, NJ, the Behrend Lions were edged 2-1 by the Montclair State Redhawks in the second-round of the 2007 NCAA Tournament.

Early, the match was back-and-forth with both teams exchanging good looks at the goal. In the thirty-fourth minute Montclair's Tyler Masterson took a pass from Owen Nichols to give the Redhawks the 1-0 lead entering the break.

Then in the second half with the game winding down Behrend freshman Jordan Hoffay (McKees Rocks/Montour) responded with his first goal of his career. A clutch unassisted game-tying goal at the 70:20 mark to make it 1-1, heading into the final fifteen minutes of the match. However, Masterson connected again from Nichols five minutes later to give the Redhawks the 2-1 win.

In goal Behrend's Dustin Walker (Apollo/Kiski Area) made six saves as Montclair State improves to 18-2-1 on the year. Behrend closes out the year with a 14-5-3 mark.

The Redhawks entered the contest with a rich heritage, having won eight New Jersey Athletic Conference championships. Montclair will move on to play the winner of the four-team regional that features New Jersey City, New York University, Hamilton College, and Castleton State this weekend in Newark, NJ at New Jersey Institute of Technology.   Matches are slated for Saturday, November 17 and Sunday, November 18.
