Koman Recognized as AMCC Pitcher of the Week for the Fourth Time

Behrend softball freshman Julie Koman (Mckees Rocks/Montour) has been named the pitcher of the week for the week of May 8.  This is the fourth week this spring that Koman has earned the honor, more than any other pitcher in the conference.  Koman is currently seventh in the nation in E.R.A, boasting a 0.57 and tenth in strikeouts per seven innings, sitting down over 10 batters a game.

Koman upped her season record to 20-3 with a 3-win effort in the AMCC tournament.  She struck out 34 in 25 innings of work, allowing just four runs in four games.  In the title game, Koman held Pitt-Bradford to one hit, fanned nine and walked no one to shut out the defending champs, 5-0.  The freshman phenom closed out the three-time defending champion Panthers in style, striking out the side in the final inning to secure the automatic bid to the NCAAs for the blue and white.

Behrend earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday with a 5-0 blanking of Pitt-Bradford on the Behrend diamond.  The blue and white were placed in the Northeast Regional as the seventh-seed and will play the second-seed and host Ithaca Bombers (35-4) first in the double-elimination regional on Thursday, May 11 at 2:00 p.m.  This is the first trip to the NCAA Tournament for the blue and white.
